Will Erhard
Will Erhard’s passion for the bass began when he was 15 years old after seeing Manfred Mann’s Earth Band at the Tower Theater. The bass player happened to be playing an Alembic bass. Will was hooked. He took lessons and bought his first bass for $10. That was 34 years ago and his love for bass is still going strong.
He admired the bass guitars played by John Entwistle and Stanley Clarke and had his very first Alembic bass custom built in 1983. Since then he has designed 4 more.
He has played in a number of bands including Destiny, Surrender, The Lou Kramer Band, Strange Kreek and New Way Out. He has backed several guitar players, vocal duos and other bands. His musical influences include Mark King of Level 42, Les Claypool of Primus, Stanley Clarke, who he has met several times, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, and John Entwistle.
Will earned a degree in electronics so he could run concert sound systems. He designs and builds his own speakers. His true loves, however, are his Alembic basses. He enjoys designing them himself, selecting the different woods, scale lengths, tuning, body shapes and electronics.
In his spare time, when he is not caressing his Alembic bass, Will is a serious muskie fisherman and has caught record breaking fish in his home state of Pennsylvania. He is single and resides in north Philly.
